Construction Trends in 2025

Are you looking for expert advice to see how much the government will spend next year in construction? Are you wondering how the interest rates can affect the construction in your local area?

If you’re looking for answers to those questions–you won’t get them here.

There’s enough companies, experts and industries that can answer those questions through some internet browsing.

BadLeader isn’t about that. We exist to serve you. Blue collar to blue collar.

You.

We exist to serve the construction workers and blue collars of the modern day, let us know how we can help and we will do our best to connect with you and find the help you could need.

So the trends we are talking about today are about us. The boots on the ground, the people in the trenches. Day in and day out.

From the people I am talking to regularly, 2025 can be a mixed bag of things.

Let’s touch briefly on the following 4 things:

Work/Life Balance

There’s lots of opportunities for working extra and making more money. However, I see a lot of younger people- especially those with families picking the time with their friends/ family and having more experiences. If you’re in a season of doing lots of hours and making that money- keep going, the sacrifices you make today pay for tomorrow’s life you want to create.

I can’t remember where I heard it or exactly how it was phrased but a quote I have been pondering lately is “the most important thing you do might not be something you do but rather a person you raise”

Upskilling

Keep pushing, keep making yourself more attractive to potential employers and contractors. There is so much opportunity in construction right now that the sky's the limit. Apply yourself, be disciplined and make a reputation for yourself. The people that put the effort in now are going to reap massive results in the coming years. At the end of the day the only thing you can fall back on or blame is your reputation.

Another one I heard recently. “You can make progress or you can make excuses but you can’t make both.”

Labor Gap

You hear it all the time. We need more people in construction. We need more bodies on the projects. This may be true, but we don’t need more confusion, more incidents, more chaos. Bringing on all green people burns the experienced guys out. We need to be strategic in filling our labor gap with people that are ready to learn, people who are motivated to get these jobs done. We don’t need bodies, we need professionals.

If you’re leading the way out there, helping others and helping the apprentices don’t forget that the biggest impact you have on the industry might not be a building you finished but a person you mentored.

Safer and Smarter

Technology is transforming job sites. We are late adopters so be on the lookout for more ways your company will introduce technology. You might see things like AI written safety talks, online module training, training in other aspects of construction. The industry is always trying to push safety ahead through government standards. Contractors that want massive contracts need to make sure their safety standards and documentation are at the highest level to be even able to bid on these jobs, look out for more documentation to your job sites.

What are you seeing in the field? How has the industry changed in the last 365 days? How will it change in the next 365 days? Is it good or bad?

See you in the pit!
